Minor - Player Pitch - Little League Baseball
Players signed up for Minors Player Pitch will be placed in 1 of 2 divisions based on considering their experience, skill level and league-age. Placement of players within AA versus AAA is overseen by EWG League Player Agent.
The Double A division is the first introduction to “kid pitch” baseball where the players pitch to the opposing team. Positional play is developed. This division consists primarily of League Age 7- and 8-year-old players who have played at least one season of coach pitch Single A (Coach Pitch) ball. The Double A division is also open to League Age 9-year-old players who have no prior baseball experience.
The Triple A Division is the first “draft” level division consisting primarily of League Age 9 and 10-year-old players as well as those older players not drafted to the Majors division. Tryouts are held and teams are formed through a manager draft process supervised by the EWG League Player Agent. The players pitch and all players in the lineup bat. The standard nine defensive positions are used, and scores and standings are kept. Trained umpires enforce the Rules and Regulations of Little League Baseball. Players are taught advanced fundamentals of baseball such that they are exposed to pitching techniques, playing positions, defensive pre-pitch preparedness, live batting and more aggressive base running. Triple A specific constraints in the rules are enforced (i.e., 5 run per inning limit, limited # of steals per inning, etc.) to encourage a balance between competition and player development at this level of play. A postseason tournament in which all teams in the division participate will determine the champion for the division. Consistent with Little League rules, special consideration may be granted to specific League Age 12-year-old players to play in the Triple A division when it is deemed a safety hazard for a League Age 12-year-old player to play in the Majors division. League Age 8-year-old players are allowed to try out for Triple A given they participated in the Double A division in the prior season with the League or a similar division in another Little League. Any parent of a League Age 8-year-old interested in being considered for Triple A MUST attend tryouts. Prior to a League Age 8-year-old moving up to Triple A, the player will be evaluated by the EWG Player Agent in consultation with a committee approved by the president to determine the player’s skills and team roster sizes within the AAA division for availability.
